PS5 hacked: modder with surprising discovery

After a jailbreak on the Playstation 5 was successful at the beginning of the month, a modder has now published his first finds. They provide clues to the great mysteries of the gaming scene.

A so-called jailbreak describes the state when the settings of a device are “liberated” by a hack and thus become freely accessible and variable. This is exactly what was recently achieved on the Playstation 5 .

Lance McDonald, the modder who achieved this feat, has now dug deep into the game console’s file archive – and discovered some amazing things, as the online magazine Eurogamer reports.

Legendary hoax ring suddenly real

The first thing that the digital treasure hunt brought to light is actually a legendary treasure from the gaming scene. In the files of the Demon’s Soul remake, McDonald found a 3D model of the legendary Chieftain’s Ring.

The supposedly powerful artifact was originally a hoax from fans in the original game. Fake screenshots and eyewitness accounts claimed the item’s existence, leading players to frantically search for the item in-game – even though it never existed.

So that could change in the remake – a friendly wink from the programmers to the fan base.

“Abandoned” a secret “Silent Hill” project?

McDonald’s second find is no less mysterious: he found a file directory for the game “Abandoned” – a survival horror game from the studio Blue Box – which was initially widely announced and then suddenly disappeared from the scene completely. In addition, the developer studio published contradictory statements, which were then deleted.

It is not known whether the strange behavior is a marketing strategy. However, the files contain references to consciously playing with gaming myths. Because in the “Abandoned” folder there is a map called PT2 – an allusion to the never completed “Silent Hill” successor.

“Seems like at some point they planned to have some ‘this is secretly a silent hill project’ bullshit trail up their sleeves,” the modder wrote on Twitter.

With these interesting finds, one can remain curious as to what else McDonald will find in the cracked heart of the PS5.

CD Projekt Red have announced on Twitter that they are working on several new games, including a new Witcher trilogy and Cyberpunk 2077 sequel and a new IP codenamed Hadar.

It looks like there are several projects in the works for fans to look forward to.

New Witcher trilogy

It’s been a long time since The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt was first released, but we’ve known for a while that CD Projekt Red had plans for a new Witcher game after they finished Cyberpunk 2077. In fact, this isn’t even the first time we’ve heard that a new trilogy is in the works .

However, now we have further confirmation of the plans and more details on them as well.

CD Projekt Red has said that the first installment in the series will be codenamed Polaris and aim to be a new triple-A RPG title. Other Witcher games are also in the works, including Canis Majoris – also a full-fledged Witcher game being developed by a different studio.

Meanwhile, CD Projekt Red’s The Molasses Flood studio is working on a bold foray into The Witcher universe , codenamed Sirius , that will feature both a multiplayer experience and a single-player story.

So let us look forward for a new Witcher trilogy and Cyberpunk 2077 sequel!

Logitech is partnering with Tencent on a portable cloud gaming device

Logitech has announced it is working on a portable cloud gaming device in partnership with Tencent Games, making it the latest entrant to the portable gaming market.

The device won’t be a direct competitor for the Steam Deck or Nintendo Switch, as it’s aimed at cloud gaming rather than on-device processing.

That means compatibility will be key. Logitech has confirmed that the device will at least work with Xbox Cloud Gaming and Nvidia GeForce. Now when it launches later this year.

The launch date is a bit surprising as we are now in August and Logitech only just announced it without showing any pictures or any real details about the hardware.

However, the company has set up a website to sign up for updates about the device as they come out.

At the moment it seems to be called simply the Logitech G Gaming Handheld, but we can imagine that the name will change later on.

We expect to hear more about the device over the next few months if it does launch later this year, so keep your eyes peeled for more details.

No more Boys Club: Why the “GTA 6” release is further delayed

The game company Rockstar Games strives for fairer working conditions for its employees. This should also affect the next part of the “GTA” series.

Massive, beautifully animated worlds, innovative game principles and a hearty pinch of corrosively cynical humor – with games like the “Red Dead Redemption” series, “Max Payne”, “LA Noire” and of course the now five independent “Grand Theft Auto parts have made some of the most successful and important contributions to the computer and video game market. However, it is said to have been catastrophic working conditions under which these masterpieces were created. While attention is now paid to fair production in many areas of consumption, this has not played a significant role in the games industry so far.

In 2018, the year the milestone “Red Dead Redemption 2” was released, several Rockstar Games employees spoke up. As the game magazine Kotaku reported, there were incredible working hours with 100-hour weeks before the release. This is so common in the industry that it even has its own name: crunch. Personal life, mental health and marriages have been sacrificed to meet the release date. Employees described the company’s former corporate philosophy to the news site Bloomberg as a boys’ club, with “boozes, fights and excursions to strip clubs”. Sexism and verbal violence were the order of the day. However, that is about to change.

The company, founded in 1998, has since fired some managers who are said to have behaved inappropriately towards employees. The gender pay gap is to be increasingly closed, and there are also additional benefits for the mental health of employees. Of course, this internal restructuring takes time, and according to some statements, certain processes have to be established first. This will primarily have one effect on the developers’ latest project: the release date will be pushed back further. Rockstar Games has been working on “GTA 6” since 2014 – and there is no end in sight, although experts expect it to be released in 2023/2024. But that’s not the only change the latest installment in the action series is set to see.

“GTA 6” for the first time with a female protagonist

For the first time, one of two main characters should be female. In a gaming world in which women have so far mainly appeared as sex objects, this can definitely be called progress. The protagonist, who will also have a Latin American background, is said to be part of a Bonnie and Clyde-esque duo. After New York City and Los Angeles, a fictional version of Miami is to be offered as a new location. Fans of the series should be reminded of “GTA Vice City”. In contrast to earlier times, however, in the future more attention will be paid to satirical content not to step down and thus create a mood against minorities. Whether and to what extent the new company philosophy is actually reflected in the game remains to be seen.

When is the game out?

Five years have passed since Skull and Bones was first presented at E3. Now the release is imminent. Towards the end of the year you can finally set sail – on November 8th, 2022 to be precise. The game will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Stadia and PC. On the PC you have the choice between the Epic Games Store and Ubisoft’s in-house shop. Crossplay and cross-progression have already been officially confirmed.

The Premium Edition will include The Ballad of Bloody Bones Collection, a variety of ship and character cosmetic items, additional digital content including two extra missions, a digital art book and soundtrack, and a Letter of Marque token. Pre-orderers also get access to the High Seas Pack, which includes the Infamous Rift and Coronation Celebration Fireworks.

What game will it be?

Skull and Bones will be a pirate multiplayer game with survival elements. With up to two friends you can set sail together to search for treasure or to board enemy ships. “From accepting contracts and gathering resources to navigating important trade routes and attacking wealthy merchant ships, every choice will affect the player’s journey, with varying degrees of risk and reward,” the announcement reads.

In principle, the world of Skull and Bones can also be explored alone. However, Ubisoft emphasizes that the game would be more fun in multiplayer. Whether you prefer to forge alliances in the good old PvE manner or activate the PvP mode to compete with other players on the server is up to you. The video linked above gives us a first glimpse of what is happening in the game.

So that the gameplay doesn’t get boring in the long run, Ubisoft has come up with a few little things. The more adventures you complete with your crew, the more fame you gain. New items can be unlocked and little by little you can expand your own fleet and adapt it to your own playing style. In addition, a plan for the time after the release of the game has already been worked out. Regular free updates with new content, activities and challenges are designed to keep players happy.
